You Set a Bedtime Alarm and Now It Won’t Stop
It happens to the best of us. You tap through your phone’s settings one evening, determined to build a healthier sleep routine. You set up a soothing bedtime alarm with gentle reminders, feeling a wave of productivity. Fast forward a week, and that same alarm is now a nightly nuisance, chiming when you’re in the middle of a movie or buzzing on your only chance to sleep in.
Finding the exact toggle to turn it off, however, can feel like a digital scavenger hunt. Unlike a standard alarm, bedtime features are often woven into broader health or clock applications, making them tricky to locate and disable.
Whether you’re using an iPhone, an Android device from Samsung or Google, or even a smartwatch, the process is straightforward once you know where to look. This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions to permanently delete your bedtime alarm and reclaim control of your schedule.
Understanding Your Phone’s Sleep Features
Before diving into the deletion steps, it helps to know what you’re dealing with. Modern “bedtime” or “sleep” alarms are rarely just alarms. They are part of a holistic sleep tracking and scheduling system.
On iPhones, this is called Sleep Schedule within the Health app. On many Android phones, it’s Digital Wellbeing’s Bedtime mode or a similar Samsung feature. These systems often do two things: they set a silent “wind down” period that may dim your screen and limit notifications, and they set a wake-up alarm.
When you want to delete the bedtime alarm, you usually need to disable the entire schedule or at least the alarm component within it. Simply turning your phone’s volume down won’t stop it.
Locating the Sleep Schedule Hub
The key is finding the central hub for your device’s sleep settings. This is not your standard Clock app’s alarm tab. It’s typically housed within a health, wellness, or digital balance application. Knowing this saves you from frantically searching through your list of standard alarms and wondering why you can’t find it.
The steps differ slightly between operating systems and manufacturers, but the principle is the same: find the schedule and edit or remove it.
How to Delete Bedtime Alarm on iPhone and iPad
Apple integrates sleep tracking deeply into the iOS Health app. Your bedtime alarm is managed through a Sleep Schedule.
Open the Health app on your iPhone or iPad. If you can’t find it, swipe down on your home screen and search for “Health.”
Tap the Browse tab at the bottom right, then select Sleep. On the main Sleep screen, scroll down to the section labeled Your Schedule. Here, you will see your next scheduled sleep time and wake-up time.
Tap on Full Schedule & Options. This is the control center for your bedtime setup. You will see a weekly schedule. To completely remove the bedtime alarm, the simplest method is to turn off the schedule entirely.
Tap the toggle next to Sleep Schedule at the top to turn it OFF (gray). A confirmation prompt will appear. Confirm that you want to turn off your schedule. This action immediately deletes all upcoming bedtime reminders and wake-up alarms associated with the schedule.
Editing Instead of Deleting Your iPhone Sleep Alarm
If you want to keep a sleep schedule but just change or remove the alarm for certain days, you can edit it instead.
With your Sleep Schedule still ON, tap on the day you wish to change under the week view. You can set different wake-up times for different days. To remove the alarm for a specific day, tap Wake Up and use the time picker to select an alarm time, or toggle the alarm for that day off.
You can also adjust your Bedtime window and Wind Down period from this same menu. Once you’ve made your changes, tap Done in the upper right corner to save them.
How to Remove Bedtime Alarm on Android Phones
The process on Android varies more because manufacturers like Samsung, Google, and others have their own implementations. We’ll cover the two most common: Google’s Digital Wellbeing and Samsung’s One UI.
For Google Pixel and Stock Android (Digital Wellbeing)
Open your Settings app and search for or navigate to Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
Within Digital Wellbeing, look for a section called Bedtime mode. Tap on it to see its settings.
You will see a schedule with set start and end times. To delete the associated alarm, you need to disable the schedule. Tap the toggle at the top next to Bedtime mode to turn it OFF.
This disables the automatic screen grayscale and Do Not Disturb features. Importantly, it also turns off any linked wake-up alarm. Your standard alarms in the Clock app remain unaffected.
For Samsung Galaxy Phones (One UI)
Samsung often places its bedtime features directly in the Clock app, which can be more intuitive.
Open your Samsung Clock app. Look for a tab labeled Bedtime or Sleep. Tap on it.
Here you will see your configured sleep goal and alarm time. To delete the alarm, tap on the alarm time. This will open the alarm settings. You will see a toggle switch for the alarm. Simply tap this toggle to turn the alarm OFF (gray).
Alternatively, you can tap the three-dot menu in the top corner and select Delete to remove the entire bedtime routine setup. Confirm your choice, and the alarm will be deleted.
Dealing with Bedtime Alarms on Smartwatches
If your bedtime alarm is syncing from a paired smartwatch like an Apple Watch or Wear OS device, you may need to manage it on the watch itself or in its companion phone app.
For Apple Watch, the sleep schedule is managed through the iPhone’s Health app, as described above. Changes you make on the phone sync directly to the watch. Disabling the Sleep Schedule on your iPhone will also stop alarms on your Apple Watch.
For Wear OS watches (paired with Android phones), open the Google Fit app on your watch or phone. Navigate to the Sleep section and check for any scheduled bedtime goals or alarms. You can adjust or disable them there. The settings might also be controlled by the phone’s Digital Wellbeing, so check both places if the alarm persists.
When the Standard Methods Don’t Work
Sometimes, an alarm seems to stick around even after you’ve turned off the schedule. Here are a few troubleshooting steps for a stubborn bedtime alarm.
First, double-check your standard alarm list. It’s possible you accidentally created a regular alarm with the same time as your bedtime. Open your Clock app, go to the Alarms tab, and look for any active alarms at the problematic time. Swipe left on any unwanted alarm to delete it.
Restart your device. A simple reboot can clear out software glitches that cause settings to not apply correctly. Turn your phone or watch off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
Check for app-specific alarms. Some third-party sleep or meditation apps like Calm or Headspace have their own internal alarm systems. If you use one, open that app and explore its settings to ensure an alarm isn’t set there.
Verify your Focus or Do Not Disturb modes. On iOS, a Sleep Focus might still be scheduled even if the Health app alarm is off. Go to Settings > Focus > Sleep. Under the Schedule section, ensure no schedule is enabled. On Android, check Settings > Sound & vibration > Do Not Disturb for any scheduled rules.
Performing a Deeper Reset
If the phantom alarm continues, you can try resetting all your alarm settings. Be warned: this will delete all your alarms, not just the bedtime one.
On iPhone, you can go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. Then choose Reset All Settings. This will not erase your data, but it will revert all system settings (Wi-Fi, wallpaper, alarms) to default.
On Android, the path is similar. Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset app preferences. This resets permissions and settings for all apps, including the Clock, which should clear any corrupted alarm data.
Building a Better Sleep Routine Without the Hassle
Now that you’ve deleted the problematic alarm, you might still want the benefits of a consistent sleep schedule. The key is setting it up in a way you can easily control.
Consider using a standard alarm instead of the dedicated bedtime system. Set a repeating alarm in your main Clock app for your wake-up time. You can give it a gentle label and a calming sound. The advantage is that it lives in an obvious place where you can quickly turn it off for weekends.
Use separate features for wind-down. You can manually enable Do Not Disturb or a custom Focus mode an hour before bed instead of tying it to an automatic schedule. This gives you daily flexibility.
Lever automation apps. Tools like iOS Shortcuts or Android’s Tasker can create powerful, customized bedtime routines that you can trigger with a single tap or based on your location, giving you automation without the lock-in of a rigid system schedule.
Taking Back Control of Your Night
A bedtime alarm is meant to be a tool for better health, not a source of frustration. The process to delete it is usually a matter of finding the right settings menu—be it in Health, Digital Wellbeing, or your Clock app—and turning off the overarching schedule or the specific alarm toggle.
Start by checking your device’s health or wellness hub. If the alarm persists, remember to check your standard alarm list, restart your device, and investigate any third-party apps. With these steps, you can silence the unwanted chime and decide for yourself when your day truly ends and begins.
Your phone’s features should work for you, not the other way around. Now that you know how to manage them, you can set up a sleep routine that adapts to your life, not one that dictates it.
